“How much does it cost to replace my windows?” It’s the first question we get on the phone. And that makes sense. Before talking PVC, glazing or grants, you want to know if the project fits your budget.
The honest answer is that it depends on your house. But “it depends” doesn’t help anyone plan. So here are the ballpark numbers we see in Laval quotes in 2026, what pushes them up or down, and what you actually pay once taxes and Rénoclimat are counted.
How much does an installed window cost in Laval in 2026?
In 2026, a PVC window supplied and installed sits around $1,600 to $2,000 per opening, before tax. Hybrid goes up to about $1,900 to $2,450. These are the ranges Renoconnect sees in quotes from its partner window installation companies. The bigger or more unusual the opening, the further you get from these ranges.
Seen lower prices online? That’s possible. Published ranges don’t all include the same things: full frame or not, interior trim, exterior finishing, disposal of the old windows. A low quote that leaves out the finishing often shows up again on the final bill.
| What you replace | Per opening | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| PVC window | $1,600 to $2,000 | The most common choice. See PVC windows. |
| Hybrid window | $1,900 to $2,450 | Aluminum outside, PVC inside. See hybrid windows. |
| Entry door | $2,250 to $3,500 | Sidelights and transoms are priced on top, custom. |
| Sliding patio door | $2,900 to $3,400 | A French patio door is priced custom. |
| Wood, aluminum, bay, garage door | Custom | Too variable to give an honest range. |
An opening is a hole in the wall. A window with two sashes in the same frame counts as one. That’s also how Rénoclimat counts, more on that below.
How much does a full eight-window project cost?
An eight-window PVC project in Laval runs about $12,800 to $16,000 before tax. Eight isn’t a random number: it’s our real average, 3,926 windows replaced by our partners for more than 472 clients.

The math, line by line. Eight windows cost $12,800 to $16,000 before tax. GST and QST add $1,917 to $2,396. Rénoclimat takes off $1,200 if you qualify. That leaves about $13,500 to $17,200 to pay.
What about the Rénoclimat evaluation? It costs $150 plus tax, and the $150 is refunded when the grant is paid. If the grant is paid, your real cost comes down to the tax, about $22 (quebec.ca).
What makes the price go up or down?
Material makes the biggest difference, but it isn’t alone. In the quotes we compare, seven things explain almost every price gap from one house to the next.
- Material: PVC, hybrid, aluminum or wood. It’s the first choice, and the biggest gap. We compare them in PVC, hybrid or aluminum.
- Size: a big living room window isn’t priced like a basement window.
- Mechanism: a casement window has a crank and more hardware than a fixed one.
- Glazing: double or triple, with or without low-E coating and argon.
- Installation type: inside the existing frame, or full frame when the old frame is damaged.
- Condition of the opening: rotten wood around it gets repaired before installation.
- Access: a second floor or a window above a roof can call for equipment.
The mechanism matters less than people think. On an eight-opening project, it’s mostly material and quantity that decide the total. That’s why we price by material first.
Rénoclimat: how much does it really take off?
Rénoclimat pays $150 per opening replaced with an ENERGY STAR certified door or window (quebec.ca, updated November 2025). The program is still running in 2026. But the conditions play out before the work, not after.
- The energy evaluation happens before the work. Without it, no grant.
- Products must be ENERGY STAR certified. Keep the labels and invoices.
- A bay of three windows in the same opening qualifies for a single $150 grant.
- Replacing only the glass, only the sash, or a door without its frame doesn’t count.
- The house’s EnerGuide rating has to improve after the work.
The grant arrives about 8 to 10 weeks after the post-work evaluation (quebec.ca). So plan to pay the full invoice first. The steps are laid out in our Rénoclimat grant guide. And no, nobody can guarantee you an amount upfront: the program advisor validates your file.
What about LogisVert? Hydro-Québec’s program doesn’t cover doors and windows for homeowners: its September 2026 guide says so in plain words. Federally, the Greener Homes grant and loan are closed. A new LogisVert component, funded with Ottawa and delivered through Éconologis, makes the work free and turnkey for modest-income households. Doors and windows are added to it starting in 2027 (Government of Quebec, June 29, 2026).
Do you need a permit to replace windows in Laval?
No, not for a same-size replacement (City of Laval). If your property is in a PIIA area, a site planning and architectural integration program, check with the City anyway. A permit is required in three cases:
- You make the opening bigger or smaller.
- You add a door or a window.
- The door or window is less than 1.5 metres (5 feet) from the property line.
The permit costs $92 for the first $20,000 of work, plus $2.50 per $1,000 beyond that. For $30,000 of work, that’s $117. Allow about 30 days (City of Laval). If you’re changing the size of an opening, put the permit in your schedule, not the day before installation.
Will prices drop if I wait?
Nothing suggests it. In the second quarter of 2026, the residential building construction price index rose 8.4% year over year in the Montreal area, versus 2.3% for the 15-city average (Statistics Canada). That index measures new construction, not windows as such. But it shows which way labour and material costs are heading here.
What really costs you is waiting with a failing window. According to Natural Resources Canada, windows, doors and skylights can account for up to 35% of a home’s heat loss. And a frame that takes on water eventually turns a simple replacement into a wall repair. Not sure about yours? Our list of signs it’s time to replace your windows helps you decide.
Why don’t three quotes for the same house look alike?

Because they almost never price the same thing. One quote includes interior finishing, the other doesn’t. One counts removing the old windows, the other adds it as an extra. Glazing, hardware and warranty also change from one company to the next. The gap often comes from there, before the price of the product itself.
A real case from our files: a homeowner had received a $62,000 quote. For the same products and the same warranties, we found a company at $32,000. It’s not the norm, but it shows why comparing is worth it.
In our files, two lines change more than the others from one quote to the next: the warranties, on the product as well as the labour, and the installation lead time. Those are the first two we look at with you.
Here’s what we compare with you, line by line:
- The exact product: manufacturer, series, glazing, ENERGY STAR certification.
- The installation type: inside the existing frame or full frame.
- Finishing: interior trim, caulking, flashing and exterior cladding.
- Disposal of the old windows.
- Written warranties: product, sealed glass, labour, and how long each lasts.
- The deposit requested and the payment schedule.
- Manufacturing lead time and installation date, in writing.
That’s our job. We get up to 5 quotes from carefully selected companies, put them side by side, and show you where the real gaps are. When the cheapest one is the right one, we tell you.
Two checks before you sign
First: the company must hold a licence from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec, subclass 8, Doors and windows. You can check it in two minutes in the RBQ licence holder registry.
Second: if the seller reached out to you first and the contract is signed at your home, it’s a door-to-door sale. The seller must then hold a permit from the Office de la protection du consommateur. You have 10 days to cancel from the day you receive your signed copy, and no deposit can be required during that period (OPC).
One last reflex: be wary of a discount that expires at the end of the visit. An honest price holds long enough to compare.
Where to start
Take inventory. Count your openings, doors included. Note the condition of the frames, the floor, and any windows with fog between the panes. With that in hand, fifteen minutes on the phone is enough to frame your budget.

Then we handle the tedious part. You make the choice. Free for you: the selected company covers our fees, never the homeowner. How we work is explained on our windows and doors page.

Frequently asked questions
About $1,600 to $2,000 per opening, supplied and installed, before tax. That’s the range Renoconnect sees in quotes from its partners. Size, glazing and installation type move the price. It isn’t a guaranteed price.
For eight PVC windows, our average per project, plan for about $12,800 to $16,000 before tax. With taxes, and $1,200 from Rénoclimat if you qualify, that leaves roughly $13,500 to $17,200 to pay.
$150 per opening replaced with an ENERGY STAR certified product (quebec.ca). A bay of three windows in the same opening counts as one grant. The energy evaluation must be done before the work.
Not for a same-size replacement. In a PIIA area, check with the City anyway. You need one if you change the size, add an opening, or are within 1.5 metres of the property line. It costs $92 for the first $20,000 of work (City of Laval).
No. Hydro-Québec’s September 2026 participation guide excludes installing or replacing doors and windows for homeowners. One exception: the new component for modest-income households, delivered through Éconologis, will include windows starting in 2027. For other homeowners, the grant to look at is Rénoclimat.
The installation is done by our RBQ-licensed partner companies. We get up to 5 quotes from them, compare them with you, and the selected company covers our fees, never the homeowner.
